"ONLY THE TIP OF THE ICEBURG" 1/?

The President had been on a roll for the past few months, and there was only one thing to stop him, and that would be the younger voters. He knew if he could seal up at least a forth of them, he would win reelection, but he didnít know what to do. His staff was one of the best, if not the best the White House had ever seen, but they were all lacking what he wanted. They worked tirelessly and didnít get out very much. The President believed that most of his staff were adults by the age of twelve, excluding Josh at certain times of the day. Then it dawned on him. A couple months ago he had met a young girl who was on tour at the White House. She was graduating from Harvard in a month or so and had a brief, but meaningful conversation with the President. He really took her in, and ever since then he has been determined to try to reach the younger voters, so why not her for this new job. He decided to give her a call.

It took him a couple hours to track her down, but once he got a hold of her, he wasnít going to let her go until she agreed to work for his staff. It didnít take long, she would have been an idiot to say no. So, the President got her a plane ticket and expected her to be at the White House late tomorrow afternoon, before then, though, he would tell the rest of his staff of his plans and the new-comer.

"Welcome all!" The President exclamed rather excitedly.

"Heya" The rest of the staff said in a monotonous tone.

"Now, come on, cheer up." The President said, still smiling as he sat on his desk.

"Sorry, Sir. Itís just hard work is tortureís best friend." Toby said with a smirk.

"Now, see. If Toby can be cheery, so can all of you." The President said sarcastically. The rest of the staff laughed, even Toby.

"Okay, letís get down to business. The first thing is I am hiring someone new.." The President said, not being able to finish his sentence.

"What? Who? and Why?" All of the staffers said, almost in a chorus.

"Well, I want to tackle the youth vote, and the best way to do that is hiring this new person." He said, reassuring himself.

"Mr. President, we havenít even talked about this, are you sure this is wise?" Leo said, while both putting the President down and being as nice as possible.

"Ya, donít worry you guys, sheís smart, really smart. And funny, you guys will get along great, so treat her nice and give her a chance. Weíll see how this works out, if she is abnormally bad at it, weíll just let her go. Donít worry, everything she does has to go through you, Josh, so weíve got our bases covered." The President said as he got up from his place on his desk and sat in his chair.

"Well, where did you meet her?" CJ asked, trying to understand what was going on.

"She took a tour of the White House a couple of months ago. Listen you guys, she has some really great ideas, and, to make you feel better, she will be doing arrands, for all of you." With that they all kind of smiled, it did make them feel better, she had to pay her dues.

"So, she is working under me?" Josh asked, a little more relaxed.

"Ya, well all of you. Toby, Sam, she will work under you when I have to give a speech in front of a crown of younger people, you know to spruce it up. Josh, sheíll be consulting with you for stratigic moves on my behalf and hers. And CJ, sheíll work under you when you need info of any kind, ok?" The President said, with both his eyebrows raised.

"Yes, sir." The all mumbled.

"Okay, she will be arriving soon, and I will take her around to meet you all later, dismissed." And with that they all left and went their separate ways.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Josh!" Donna yelled, trying to catch up with her boss.
"Ya!" Josh said, barely turning his head, while he continued walking.
"Here are those files you wanted." Donna said, almost out of breath.
"Hey, did you know the President is hiring someone new?" He said, finally stopping to face her.
"Ya, the PR Advisor?" Donna said, standing up straight, now that her breathing was regulated.
"Wha? How did you know that, we just got out of there, like, two minutes ago." He said quite amazed by his assistant.
"People talk, I listen, what can I say." She said, matter-of-factly. Josh just sort of mumbled, and shook his head, and then continued walking.
"I hear she went to Harvard." Donna said to her boss, who was still in shock.
"Really?" He said, now interested once again.
"Ya, rumor is, she is really smart. I hear she is only, like, twelve or something." Donna said with a shake of her head.
"What? That is not true. Come on. I know the President can be a little...um, well, I know for sure he wouldnít hire a twelve year old." He said, truely believing what he was saying.
"Okay, youíre right. I think she is 19, which is still young figuring she has already graduated from Harvard." Donna replied.
"Wow, so she graduated high school at what, 15?" He said, still computing the numbers.
"Ya, I think. Anyway, she doesnít sound to bad."
"Well, weíll see." Josh said as he went into his office.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At 1:30 the mystery guest arrived. The President was thrilled, he put down what he was doing and went directly to the first office he came to, which just happened to be Tobyís. The President knocked at the door and heard a call to go in.

"Hey, guys." The President said with a smile on his face, he had only opened the door enough to fit his face through.

"Hi Mr. President." Toby, Josh, and Sam all said as they rose to their feet.

"I want you to meet Susan McAllister." The President said, with a smile as he lead the brown haired girl into the room. She was dressed casually, with a pair of khakis and a blue button up top, and her hair was pulled back to reveal a delicate face with bright green eyes.

"Just call me Susie. Hi." She said, obviously nervous, as she sort of waved, which caused her to lose the grip on her heavy bag.

"Hi, welcome." Sam said with a big grin, and was preceeded by Toby and Josh.

"Listen, Josh. I want you to take her around and show her the ropes, okay?" The President said, almost as an order.

"Yes Sir, I just have to finish up here with Toby and Sam." Josh said, as he sat at the edge of Tobyís desk.

"Oh, sure. I still have to find CJ, and introduce her. Iíll just leave Susie with CJ until your done." The President said, as he was walking out the door.

"Yes, fine Sir." Josh replied.

"Sheís not twelve." Sam said as he looked up at Josh. And all Josh could do was give Sam an odd look and shake his head, while Toby chuckled a little.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ten minutes later, Josh was on the hunt for CJ, and finally found her in the press room with Susie.
"Okay, see that guy over there, he is totally in love with me." CJ said, as she pointed to Danny.
"Oh." Susie said, as she saw Josh approach.
"He is completely infatuated. Just watch, he will come up to me and make comments. Itís hard to push him away, every time." CJ said, not taking her eyes off Danny. Which causes Danny to turn around and wave because CJ is staring.
"SEE! Did you see that? He is constantly thinking about me, that wave is proof!" CJ said as she finally noticed Josh who had been standing there before the wave.
"Oh, hi Josh." CJ said.
"Hey, CJ." He said grinning because of her recent outburst.
"Did you meet Susie?" She said, trying to change the subject.
"Ah, ya. Actually, Iím here to steal her away from you, if thatís okay?" He said, while exchanging glances between CJ and Susie.
"Oh, sure. It was nice to meet you." CJ said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you too." And with that Susie and Josh were off.
"Wheeew." Exhaled Susie.
"Ya, CJ can be like that sometimes. Danny must have been putting on the pressure." Josh said, without making eye contact.
"I guess." Susie replied.
"We can all be like that sometimes. CJ gets a little paranoid and chatty. Sam gets confused and starts to mumble out phrases, me, well I get a little snippy and Toby gets crabby, but its usually that time of the month for Toby." With that, Josh got a laugh out of Susie. He was pleased, and started laughing too.
"Your funny, Iím gonna hang out with you." She said with a smile.
"Well, Iím glad." Then all of a sudden he heard his name being called.
"Josh!"
"Yes Donna" He said as Donna rushed up to be on the other side of him.
"A senator called and wants you to reschedule an appointment and Sam needs to see you once you get a call from some guy." She said, as she tried to rack her brain for more information.
"Wait, what senator, and what guy?" Josh said, frustrated.
"I donít know I have it written down at my desk." She said as they walked.
"Okay, whatever. Oh, did you meet Susie?" Josh said as he stepped back to reveal the two women who were beside him.
"Oh, hi, Iím Donna, Joshís assistant. Hey, your not twelve?" She said, as politely as possible.
"Um, no. I was, at one point, but that was years ago." Susie said with a smile which made both Donna and Josh laugh a bit.
"Okay, Josh, did you know that the air surrounding a lightning bolt is six times hotter than the surface of the sun, can you believe that?" Donna said, as she looked at Josh and Susie.
"Donna! What does that have to do with anything?" He said as they all stopped at Donnaís desk.
"Just an FYI. No need to get snippy. He does that from time to time." Donna said eventually switching her eye contact to Susie.
"So I hear." Susie said, as both her and Donna turn to face him.
"Okay, Iím going to my office. Donna, get Susie updated on stuff going on now, and get me that senators name and the guy whose call Iím waiting for." He said as Donna handed him a stack of files.
"Ya, coming right up." She said as she searched her desk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After an hour or so of talking, Donna and Susie became pretty tight. It seems they had a lot in common, and made each other laugh quite easily. Donna gave Susie the skinny on everyone in the office, and, in turn, causing huge bursts of laughter. Everything down to CJís jackal, to the Presidents long-winded speeches on anything uninteresting. Eventually, Josh came out of his office to see how things were going.

"Hey, you two? You bring her up to speed?" He said, smiling, trying to join in the fun.

"Actually, no." Donna said, looking at Susie.

"No? What have you been doing all this time?" Josh said a little frustrated.

"Talking bad about you." Donna said with a smirk.

"Donna?!" He said as he was losing patience.

"Okay, okay. Iíll do it. You know your getting snippy again, donít you?" Donna said as she cocked her head to Josh.

"I am not! And it doesnít matter Iíll do it." He said as he made a gesture to Susie.

"No, Josh, Iíll do it." Donna said, on her feet.

"Itís okay, Donna. Iím not mad, I will do it." Josh said in a way that was hard for Donna to refuse.

"Okay then, have your way. Just, Susie, remember what I told you about Josh." She said with a wink that was followed by a smirk.

"Donna..." Josh said, as he lead Susie into his office.

"I know, I know, back to work." Donna said, as she laughed to herself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Man.." Susie said, as she ploped herself down on a chair. She had loosened up since talking to Donna. She felt she could be more herself now.
"What?" Josh said as he casually made his way over to his chair.
"You are so in love with her." Susie said with a laugh, not looking over at Josh. "What? Youíve only been here a couple hours, how would you know?" Josh said rather defensively
"She told me she loved you." Susie said, with no eye contact.
"She did??" Susie noticed how Joshís ears perked up at the last comment.
"No, but you seem pretty interested." She said, with her eyes set on his, and a smile. Josh was caught, he instictively got up and made his way to his file cabinet.
"It just sounded so strange, Donna wouldnít say that." He said trying to cover up his mistake.
"Whatever. So, what do you want to get started on?" Susie said while looking at her fingernail.
"Now donít go saying that around the office. You could get me and Donna in a lot of trouble." Josh said as he sat back down
"Saying what?" Susie questioned.
"The whole, me and Donna love thing." Josh said, as he waved his hands.
"Oh, oh, ya. Okay." Susie said with a shrug.
"Because, ya know, itís not true." He said, trying to act casual.
"Okay."
"And plus, I am kind of with someone right now." He said, arrangeing his desk.
"Oh, who?" Susie said, as she raised one eyebrow.
"You probably wouldnít know her, her name is Joey Lucas. And we like each other." He said, reassuring himself.
"Oh, and where is she?" Susie asked.
"In L.A." Josh replied.
"And have you gone out on a date with her?" Susie said, with her head cocked.
"Well, no." Josh said, as he was thinking things out in his head.
"Okay, ya, your dating. If thats the case, Iím dating a lot of people." Susie said sarcastically.
"Hey, hey. Letís get back to work, we have a lot of work." Josh said, trying desperately to get off the subject.
"Sure, shoot." Susie said, still smiling.
