CJ woke the next morning feeling rather disoriented. It took a moment for her to realize she was on Toby's couch, and another moment for her to remember why she was there. She opened her eyes and started to look for him. She quickly found him, sitting in the same chair, still typing on his laptop. If he had moved it wasn't noticeable.

He looked up when he heard her move. "Good morning."

"I find myself wondering if you ever sleep." She said.

"I don't need a lot of sleep."

"However, when I do, I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow."

"That really isn't natural."

"It is for me."

"It's a sign of sleep deprivation."

"Good morning." She said as she got up.

"I believe I said that earlier."

"Yes and now I'm saying it." She smiled. "What time is it?"

"A little after six."

"I should call a cab and go home."

"If you want to."

"Well somehow going in with you doesn't seem to be a wise idea."

"I need to call a cab."

"Then pick up the phone." He said without looking up from the computer.

"Wouldn't want Josh and Sam to get the idea that something happened last night." She laughed.

"Oh, I think they'll come to that conclusion without any help from us."

"Probably." She picked up the phone and called a cab

About an hour after she got to work, Josh came into CJ's office. "What may I do for you today?" She asked.

"You could have told me you were leaving last night."

"So you wouldn't have bought my drink?"

"I didn't know I was going when you left."

"Okay." She replied.

"So did you have a nice time last night, CJ."

"Yes, I did have a nice time at the bar."

"That's wasn't what I was talking about, Claudia Jean."

She smiled sweetly. "I know that, Joshua."

"Last night?"

"What about last night?"

"Have a good time?"

"Josh, I have actual work to do here."

"Okay." He turned to go. "Same suit as yesterday?"

"Same color, yes. Yesterday I was wearing pants. Today, I am wearing a skirt, and in case you didn't notice the blouse is different." She stood.

"Slick one, CJ." He smiled and left.

As she was leaving that evening she walked by his office. He was typing on the laptop, which was nothing unusual.

"I'm beginning to think you are surgically connected to that thing." She laughed.

He looked up and smiled slightly.

"You do realize that it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown?"

"Just checking."

"If you want to, you could come by later and I'll fix dinner." She suggested.

"That would be nice."

"Okay, then I'll see you later?"

"Okay." She said as she left.

He came to her apartment that night. They had a nice dinner and later found themselves sitting side by side on the couch. She was quiet as he picked up her left hand and started to closely examine it.

"What are you doing?" CJ asked after a moment.

"Picturing the ring I picked out on your hand."

"You're actually serious about this?"

"Yes." "Okay." She didn't know what else to say.

"I think you'll like the ring." He was still holding her hand.

"I haven't agreed to wear it yet."

"I haven't asked you."

"That's true."

"I'll ask soon."

"The ring is being sized and stuff."

"I'm planning a better proposal than the one you heard last night."

She laughed. "You better be."

"I am." He smiled.

"You enjoy teasing me, don't you?"

"You've noticed that?" She laughed.

"I do enjoy teasing you."

"It will be my turn to tease you, one day."

She looked at him over the rim of her glasses. "Oh really?"

They sat there talking for awhile. She started to get tired and laid down, her head resting in his lap.

"Comfortable?" He asked as he ran his fingers through her hair.

"You'll stay?"

She fell asleep a little while later. He sat on the couch with her, gently running his fingers through her hair. "I love you." He whispered after a few minutes.
