She woke slowly the next morning. It took a moment, but then she realized where she was, CJ turned a little bit and she felt Toby's arms tighten around her.
"Good morning." He said, his voice was almost cheerful.
"Morning." She mumbled, only half awake. "What time is it?"
She groaned. "How the hell are you so cheerful?"
"Maybe it's the company."
"It's four thirty in the morning, you shouldn't be cheerful." She laughed a little bit. "Actually it's highly unusual for you to be cheerful at any time."
"Am I going to have to kiss you to get you to shut?"
"I don't know if that would work..." Her words were cut off when he kissed her.
"It seems to be." He whispered in between kisses.
"So I'm thinking the pulling the covers over our heads and ignoring the rest of the world for the day would be a good idea."
"That does sound like a good idea."
"So I'll call Ginger and you'll call Carol...ummm...we're both sick and can't come to work today."
"That's a nice little pipe dream."
"I have to get up."
"I have to go home and get ready to go to work."
"You can do that here."
"Doing that here would involve wearing the same suit I wore yesterday."
"We wouldn't want Josh and Sam to find out about our nocturnal activities."
"No we wouldn't."
"Although I think the ring on my left hand may be a large clue about our nocturnal activities."
She got up and started to get dressed.
Toby watched her for a moment. "CJ."
"About those nocturnal activities..."
"We could move them to your place if you want to."
She buttoned her blouse. "If you want to." She smiled slightly.
"It's okay with me."
She walked over to the bed, leaned over and lightly kissed him. "I'll see you later."
"Bye." She turned and left.
It was very late in the afternoon when she saw him again. She had been bombarded with congratulations throughout the day. It had become quite disconcerting at times, but that had taken a new level when, after a meeting, the President had told her it was about time she and Toby had gotten together.
"When did you decide to broadcast our engagement to everyone, and why didn't you just go ahead and use my press room?" She asked when she walked into his office.
"I was in a good mood when I came here this morning."
She had already closed the door. "I know you were in a good mood when I left your bed this morning."
"You know how often I'm in a good mood?"
"I believe it corresponds to the occurrences of blue moons."
"It was rather questionable why I was in a good mood."
"And you couldn't side step the question?"
"I guess not."
"You know something?"
"Four thirty in the morning, Toby!"
"What are you talking about?"
"You were cheerful at four thirty in the morning." She was laughing and it was rather obvious that she was teasing him.
He looked down at the floor. "I..uh...I was enjoying the company I had at four thirty this morning."
"Yeah." She smiled and turned to go.
"I love you."
She wondered for a moment how he could have know why everyone knowing about the engagement bothered her. Until that moment she had not know how he really felt about her, and thus had been more than a little reluctant to reveal how she felt about him. "I think we need a rule."
"You shouldn't be allowed to say those words in this building?"
"Because I can't kiss you."
He laughed. "Okay."
"But I'm willing to over look that this time." She walked over and kissed his cheek.
"Okay." There was a slight smile on his face.
"I love you too."
"You just broke your own rule."
"The rule said you couldn't say the words, not that I couldn't."
"Then we need a second rule."
"You can't say the words either."
"Same reason you gave."
"Okay." She turned to go. As we watched her go there was a smile on his face.
