Previously, on the West Wing: Crystal's missing agent is found, in
the clutches of Shadid. Crystal goes to "negotiate" and finally
catches the man she's been chasing for two years before tendering her
resignation.
EPILOGUE:
Crystal sat behind the desk at the CounterSpy Shop, which was
deserted at the lunch hour, with her hands folded behind her head,
thinking. She had found the transition into civilian life easy
enough. She still woke several times in the night, though they were
slowly decreasing in frequency. Her first impulses in the morning
were still to grab her gun, which she had always kept in reaching
distance. She realized she could actually buy a table for her
television to sit on, and had.
Sam had been pleased to learn of Crystal's change of job, but
felt tremendous guilt because of it. It had taken Crystal nearly a
week to convince him she had made the choice of her own volition. He
finally got to have a nice dinner with her, Mal, and Leo at Chez
Jacques and catch up on the years she had been out of the country.
Josh endured physical therapy after the stitches finally came
out. He got endless mileage out of his "war stories," too, making
most of the account up, not wanting to get the CIA hounding him.
Over the month since Crystal quit, she and Josh had grown closer even
with Sam's playful disapproval. She was able to accompany Josh to
many state functions and presidential appearances. Her presence had
become commonplace at the White House, like the dress Marine guards;
she often popped up.
The bell over the door rang, brining Crystal to her feet and
her head out of the clouds. She grinned when she saw Josh walk in,
carrying a bag of carryout from the deli around the corner. "Hey,
you," he said.
"You said you had an important lunch meeting," she said,
confused.
"I do," he said. "One with you."
