A Long Slow Process Two more months passed, and it was the night of the state dinner. Due to scheduling conflicts, the dinner had been postponed three weeks from its original date, and now, had fallen on the eve of the anniversary of Josh's death. Donna was hardly in the mood for celebrating, but all the staff was going, and since she had worked so hard, Donna felt she had to make her appearance. She adjusted her dark blue gown and pulled her gloves higher on her arms. Sam appeared in the doorway dressed in his white-tie tuxedo with tails. Looking ever the dapper gentleman he was, Sam swooped into the room and bowed before a smiling Donna. "M'lady, your escort has arrived." "Sam, I know it's been a few years, but you still might want to be careful of mentioning escorts. You never know who might show up at one of these dinners." Donna couldn't help but stifle a laugh as Sam stood up, and hurriedly cast a panicked look over his shoulder. "Don't worry, Sam. I think you're safe with me. Now, let's get this over with."
