Burn for You

Abbey sat on the bed flipping through every television channel as Cassie paced the floor. All the news stations were covering the story, and most of them were dissecting CJ's earlier press conference. Abbey soon became sick of the news and switched off the television.
"Cass, sit down, you're making me nervous."
Slowly Cassie lowered herself onto the bed next to her mother. They sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Suddenly Cassie turned to Abbey and broke the silence, "Mom, what time is it?"
"Morning." Abbey said, clamping a hand over her mouth and running into the bathroom.
A moment later Cassie followed her. Silently she helped her mother to her feet and led her back to the bed. "Lay down." Cassie returned a moment later with a damp washrag, which she placed on her mother's forehead.
"No problem. Do you want..." The ringing phone interrupted their conversation.
Cassie hurriedly pulled it to her ear. "Hello."
"They're okay and on their way home." Said Jed's relieved voice.
"Call everyone and tell them to be in the Oval Office in four hours."
"Will do." Cassie hung up the phone.
"They're safe?" Abbey asked.
"Yes and on their way home."
Four hours later Abbey, Cassie, Margaret, and the entire remaining senior staff were gathered in the Oval Office anxiously awaiting the arrival of Toby and Leo.
"Excuse me, is this where the party is?" Everyone turned at the sound of Toby's voice in the doorway.
"Are you two really alright?" The president asked quickly.
"We're fine." Leo answered from behind Toby. They both had a few scrapes and bruises, and Leo seemed to be limping. But for the most part they were doing well.
After greeting everyone in the room Leo freed himself from the group and locked eyes with Margaret who was standing away from him. She simply stared at him for a moment before walking quickly across the oval office and falling into his open arms. Leo no longer cared who knew about them so he pressed his lips insistently to hers and they kissed.
After a moment of watching Leo and Margaret Jed decided that it was okay to lighten the mood. "Hey, you two get a room. No one wants to see that."
Margaret gave off a soft laugh as they parted lips. "Sorry sir."
"Whatever. Now in honor of our friends' safe return everyone gets the rest of the day off. I don't want to see any of you until Monday morning." Jed announced to the group.
"Yes, sir." They remarked cheerily as they hurried out of the office, leaving Jed and Abbey alone in the room.
"Well, this has been a great day, don't you think?" Jed asked as he took a seat next to Abbey on the couch. After she didn't respond he gently nudged her shoulder "Abbey, you're spacing out on me. Is something wrong?"
"No, not exactly. It's just, I've been waiting for the right time to tell you this...I guess now's as good a time as any." She smiled uneasily at him.
"Abbey, just tell me. I promise not to overreact, whatever it is."
"Okay, but remember what you just said...we're going to have a baby."
For a moment he just stared at her, as if she had just sprouted wings. Then he began to laugh loudly. "Abbey, that is really not funny. Are you trying to give me a stroke? Who put you up to this? It was Cass, right, or Zoey." He continued to laugh for a few more seconds, but stopped abruptly when he looked at Abbey and realized that she wasn't amused. "Oh damn, you're not kidding are you?"
"No, I'm not. I'm seriously eight weeks pregnant." She said, fixing him with an annoyed look.
"I'm so sorry... A baby, wow, this is a big change. Isn't it a little late in the game to be doing this all over again?"
"I didn't plan this. Sometimes things just happen."
After a moment a smile took over his face and he wrapped his arms around his wife. "This is fantastic, and despite the idiotic way I just acted I'm am extremely happy at this moment. I love you."
"I love you too." They kissed for a long while.
At the same time on the other side of town Leo was getting some equally surprising news from Margaret.
After they returned from the White House and were safely inside Leo's apartment they hurriedly made their way down the hall into Leo's bedroom, shedding their clothes on the way.
When it was over Margaret clung tightly to Leo. "I was afraid I'd never see you alive again." She told him, looking into his eyes.
"I'm afraid you're stuck with me."
"Good. I like being stuck with you. I love you."
Leo got the distinct sense that she was holding something back from him. Something beyond her fear, yet something significant all the same. "What is it, what aren't you telling me?"
She took a deep breath and summoned up all her courage. "Remember when you made my promise to see a doctor if I didn't stop feeling sick."
"Yes." He said hesitantly.
"Well, after you left I started feeling worse, so I went to the doctor."
"Is anything wrong? Are you sick?"
"No, I'm not sick, I'm pregnant."
"That's great!" He said, leaning down to kiss her.
"So, you're happy about this?"
"Yes, how do you feel?"
"Happy, surprised, relieved."
"I had no idea what kind of a reaction to expect from you. I was worried."
"Well, I couldn't imagine a better coming home surprise."
"Welcome home." Margaret said kissing him once again.
