TITLE: Thanksgiving in New Hampshire DISCLAIMERS: See part 1. RATING: PG ************************ ************************ Part 6 Thanksgiving morning Sam woke up to Toby pounding on the door. "Wake up call." "It's six am. Go away." He threw a pillow at the door and closed his eyes. "The president wants us all downstairs for breakfast in half an hour." Cassie crawled out of bed and pulled Sam's shirt on, before stumbling to the door. "Why is he making us get up so early?" "How the hell should I know? He's your father." "Fine." She slammed the door in Toby's face and drug Sam out of bed. "We have to get up now." He pulled the blanket over his head. "Too early.... vacation.... go away." She ripped the covers off. "I'm taking a shower, get dressed." He slowly got to his feet. "Ok, ok, I'm up. I need my shirt back." Cassie reached down and pulled it off over her head. He looked down at her and ran a hand across her chest. "Can't we stay in bed a while longer?" He whined. "No, get dressed." She headed into the bathroom to shower. ************************ "Mmmm waffles." Abbey stood in the doorway of the kitchen watching her husband prepare breakfast. "Where is everybody? I ordered them down here at six-thirty." "Why do you do that?" "Do what?" "Feel the need to torment everyone? This is supposed to be a relaxing weekend, let them sleep in." "Too late." Jed and Abbey turned as Cassie entered the kitchen, drying her hair. "Morning kiddo. Sam up?" "Morning. Sam's in the dining room having coffee." She pulled the towel away from her hair. "It's six thirty, why the hell do we need to be up?" "Because I said so, and I'm in charge." "Fine, act like an ass. Can I at least have a waffle now?" "In a minute, go into the dining room and I'll bring them in. Apparently Leo's got something he wants to tell everyone, after that we'll eat." "Oh, okay." Cassie exchanged a knowing glance with her mother before leaving the room. ************************ At six forty-five everyone was seated at the Bartlet's dining room table. "Here's breakfast." Jed announced, carrying a tray of waffles into the room. Josh was about to suggest they start eating, but that was when he noticed the ring on Margaret's finger. He eyed Leo and Margaret suspiciously, "Leo, is there something you guys want to share with the rest of us?" He cast a pointed glance at her hand. Leo placed his hand on top of Margaret's. "We're getting married." Everyone at the table looked surprised and Toby promptly choked on his coffee. "Congratulations." Cassie kicked Toby in the leg as she reached out to hug Leo and Margaret. "Sorry, you just surprised me, that's all. I'm happy for you both." Toby said, wiping the excess coffee off his shirt. "That's better." Leo looked annoyed. Everyone else at the table offered their congratulations. "Leo, we're all thrilled for you both, now let's eat." Jed announced. "Actually sir, there is one more thing." "How can you possibly top a wedding announcement?" Josh asked. "Margaret, would you like to do the honors?" He beamed at her. "Sure, why not?.... I'm pregnant." This time it was Jed who choked on his coffee. "Jed!" Abbey smacked his arm. She turned to Leo and Margaret. "He's very happy for you." Jed looked sheepishly at them. "Sorry, she's right, congratulations..... Wow, our kids are going to be about the same age. Hopefully they'll get along better than the two we've already got around the same age." "Hey, I resent that. Mal and I get along fine." Cassie scowled at him. "Whatever you say." Leo rolled his eyes. "Congratulations." Sam patted Leo's shoulder. "Thanks." He turned to Cassie. "I'm judging by the completely unsurprised look on you face that you already knew." "Yeah. Congrats." She hugged him tightly. "Okay, now that there is nothing else that Leo can possibly announce...." "Actually sir...." Leo cut the president off. "What else is left?" Jed turned to Margaret. "Are you having twins? Because that's about the only thing left." "Actually sir, yes we are. It was too early to tell the sex, but it's definitely twins." She paused, looking around the table. "No one spit up their coffee, I'm disappointed." Cassie laughed. "More congratulations to you both." Everyone else added their good wishes. "Now, lets' eat."
