Well, it's finished! Thank you to everyone's feedback, I have really appreciated it. Thanks to Jenny for some late night encouragement! This was my first West Wing story, I hope you've enjoyed reading it as much as I've enjoyed writing it...

Dear Mr. President

by: Rhiannon

disclaimer: Stevie's mine... nothing else is...

Stevie sat in a chair, facing out the windows in her room. She knew that the President and First Lady would be sending her back to Mark and Lisa's within a few days... No one ever wanted her for very long.

She would be leaving Mark and Lisa's soon too. They couldn't adopt her because of Lisa's medical record and Stevie's social worker didn't want her to get too attached to the Tanners... Stevie knew the drill by heart.

Stevie turned when she heard a knock at her door, "Come in, please." She rose when Jed walked into the room, "Mr. President?"

Jed studied her for a moment. She looked so very young and innocent. Her big, dark eyes stared at him dejectedly. He walked further into the room, "May I sit with you?"

Stevie nodded, "Yes, sir."

Jed walked over a chair near hers and sat down. He motioned for her to sit, "You gave us quite a scare yesterday, Stevie."

"Yes, sir. I'm sorry sir." Stevie said.

"It's all right. I'm just happy to see that you're all right." Jed paused, vaguely uncomfortable. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine, sir."

"Good... that's good."

The two sat in silence for a few moments. Finally, Jed took a deep breath and broke the silence, "Stevie, I wanted to speak with you about returning to Texas."

Stevie nodded, "When are you sending me back?"

"Actually, that's what I wanted to talk with you about-"

Stevie interrupted him, "Yes, sir. I can imagine... I'm sorry I kept my illness a secret. But I knew if I told you, you'd send me back. And now you are!"

"No, Stevie!" Jed cut in. He took hold of her shoulders and made her look at him. "We're not sending you back. You're staying here, with me and Abbey."

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is, Abbey and I are going to adopt you. You'll be my daughter. You'll be Abbey's daughter. You'll be Zoey's little sister. That's what I mean." He smiled at her, "If that's okay with you..."

Stevie stared at him, her eyes huge, "You can do that? Just like that?"

"I'm the President of the United States... I can do anything my wife lets me." Jed smiled when Stevie laughed at him. "But you still haven't answered my question, would you allow Abbey and me to adopt you?"

"Yes," Stevie exclaimed. "Defiantly! Absolutely!"

It was Jed's turn to laugh at Stevie's exuberance, "Okay, then let's go tell Abbey and Zoey."

Stevie took his hand and, together, they walked out of the bedroom.
