And it's a long way down
Abbey's bad mood progressed into a foul mood as the day wore on. By the time lunch rolled around, she was popping another aspirin in her mouth in an attempt to ease the pain in her hip.
She laid her head down on her desk with a thump. So far today, she had managed to yell at anyone she came into contact with. Lilli, her agents, her secretary... Jed.
She sighed, she felt awful about yelling at him. She'd have to make it up to him later... and do some serious apologizing while she was at it.
Abbey didn't look up when she heard her door creak open, "If you value your job, you'll go away."
"What if I came with a surprise?" came a voice. "Could I come in then?"
Abbey raised her head, "Jed..."
Jed smiled at her from the doorway, "May I come in?"
"Of course," Abbey replied, smiling softly.
Jed walked all the way into the room, pulling a cart behind him. Abbey looked at the cart with a question in her eyes. She watched as he pulled a blanket off the top of the cart and spread it out on the ground in front of her desk. He pulled a couple of pillows out from the bottom part of the cart and threw them on the blanket.
"Now, Dr. Bartlet... if you wouldn't mind joining me on the floor?"
Abbey rose from the chair and walked around to the other side of the desk. She lowered herself down on the blanket next to him, "Any other surprises?"
"I'm full of surprises, Abbey."
"Yes, you are." Abbey replied.
Jed reached up and pulled two dishes off the top of the cart. Abbey smiled when she recognized the contents in the bowl... ice cream. She reached over and took the bowls from his hands. She set them up on her desk and leaned over to him.
"I love you, you know that?"
"Yeah, I do know that." Jed replied. "Don't you want your ice cream?"
"I'd rather just talk to you." Abbey responded.
Jed smiled at her as he pulled her down all the way on the blanket with him.
