Dream For Tomorrow 7/8 By SarahK "Mmm, Donna," said Josh as he took another bite of the fettucine alfredo she had made for dinner. "If I’d known you could cook like this I’d have asked you to move in a long time ago." "Sorry, Josh, this is the last night, I’m going home tomorrow." "Damn. Now who’s gonna feed me?" Donna just shrugged and smiled. Josh was glad she felt better this evening than she had the night before when she had told him the story of her childhood tragedy. He loved to see her smile. In a way, Donna was almost sad to be leaving the next day. She had enjoyed living with Josh for the past couple of days. His house was almost like her second home. When she had woken up that morning in Josh’s arms, her first thought hadn’t been how weird the situation was, it had been how right it felt. "Donna?" Josh asked, seeing her deep in thought. "Hmm? Sorry, I think I spaced out there for a moment." "What were you thinking about?" "Um, nothing. So, what’s for dessert?" ************************************************************************ Half an hour later, after working their way through half a container of Haagen Daas ice cream, Josh and Donna sat on the couch, talking and reminiscing about the past few years they’d known each other. "So, we’re watching Sam’s boat getting closer, and he’s actually gaining on the leader, and he’s waving as he holds onto the steering wheel…Okay, this is a great argument for not driving with only one hand on the wheel…And then all of a sudden, there’s this huge wake coming along from a passing motorboat, and Sam, being the attentive sailor that he is, takes no notice of the fact that it’s coming along parallel to the boat, cause he knows he’s about to win his first race, and he’s doing a little victory dance as he pulls ahead of the leader and all of a sudden it hits, and we see it just rock the boat, right? I mean, it doesn’t look like it was that powerful. But then we see this figure sort of flail over the side, and suddenly Sam’s in the water, which was pretty funny, except that I was the one driving him home, and he didn’t bring any other clothes…" Donna threw back her head and laughed at the image. "Hey, it’s not that funny. My car had to be reupholstered, and-" Donna barely heard him as she shook with laughter. She calmed down sufficiently to take another bite of ice cream, chuckling still. She leaned back against the armrest, smiling. This felt so perfect. Suddenly, Josh was moving toward her, and she was surprised, then realized why as he dabbed at the corner of her mouth with his napkin. "Thanks," said Donna, blushing at his touch. Josh didn’t respond, as he dropped the napkin and moved closer again, leaning in until his mouth met hers. TBC…
